Welcome new horses!

Lucky for the ranch, we've added two wonderful horses to our herd: Pistol and Sparkplug!

Pistol is a tall half-Quarter Horse, half-Saddlebred, retired show jumper. He is an experienced lesson horse, and has blended amicably with his new herd-mates, Gemini, Blackjack and Trixie. He bears an uncanny resemblance to Black Beauty, which I'm sure will make him popular among the girls this summer!

Sparkplug is a young Paint, full of energy and intelligence. Sparkplug is still early-on in his training, but is very gentle and has proven to be playful and have excellent recall. If you leave a halter or bottle or training stick lying around, be sure that Sparkplug will be galloping around with it in his teeth! He and Jonah (now 9 months old!) have been fast friends, and whinny to one another whenever they're apart.

I hope you are all excited to meet these characters this summer! I know that with their sweetheart personalities they'll be the new favorites in the herd.
Happy Trails!

Happy Holidays from Trout Central!

Hard to believe but we even have to take care of our finned animals here at the ranch...and since most of the trout were pretty good this season we are giving some of them a new home! Late this fall we tried to drain the Safari Pond and relocate the trout to the SFR Ponds by the River Cabin. Unfortunately winter set in early, and ice beat us to moving the fish into their new home. The Safari Pond has a leak in the bottom which requires a new liner to be installed and the pond to be rehabbed. This will do a couple of great things for the ranch: It will offer us the ability to change some of the Safari Pond structure to make it a little more "fishy", give us a good idea of the fish numbers in the pond and allow us to both increase the fish numbers in the SFR Ponds and start a whole new trout class in Safari Pond. Everyone is looking forward to the fishy changes both at the Safari Pond and around the ranch. Looking forward to making your time on the water even more enjoyable!

Happy Holidays Everyone,

Join the party on the pavilion this summer!

Smith Fork is announcing two new family-style dining events! Join us this summer to experience "SFR Fiesta Night" and "Tour of Italy Night" on our romantic pavilion!

"SFR Fiesta Night" will be a lively atmosphere featuring gourmet Spanish cuisine, mariachi music, and custom-blended margaritas. What about the kids? Well, what's a fiesta without a pinata? Bring the camera for some after-dinner candy-smashing fun!

Dine in the Venetian-style ambience of our "Tour of Italy" night! Enjoy specialty homemade pastas and sauces from secret family recipes never-before-seen outside of Italy. Of course, our amazing wine cellar has been updated with a number of incredible Italian wine selections for a truly cosmopolitan experience.

Snow Notes from Levi!

Total snow fall at the Ranch this season is about 30- 34 inches. Only about 4-6 inches in the yards right now- a little more in the shady spots. Up the road (Mendicant Ridge, Virginia Creek Rd, Slide Down Mtn) have been receiving a substantial amount more due to daily snowfall over the past three weeks. On days off, I'm grooming x/c ski and snowshoe trails on and near the ranch. Hoping for 6- 8 km of trails. Ciara and I skied Grand Mesa last weekend and there was almost 4 ft of snow- it has received quite a bit more since then. Happy Trails!

(note from Ciara: Levi built a cross-country ski groomer this week from old random parts to tow behind the snowmobile and pack trail. What a handyman! A new direction for SFR?)

Happy Holidays!

Christmas is coming! We have perked up the Dinner Bell with a beautiful fir tree, and are enjoying the snow every day. Levi and Ciara are blazing new ski trails daily, and plan to fire up the snowmobiles next week! Christmas is a beautiful time to be in Colorado.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Everyone at Smith Fork Ranch wants to wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving. With the start to the holidays, we hope you can find some time to relax. We are celebrating Thanksgiving with a big dinner for our "ranch family," and we'll be toasting all of you around the homemade turkey and pies. Here's what we're up to for the holiday season:

Cameron and Courtney are traveling to the Oregon coast to see Cameron's family, enjoy some fishing, and learn to paint seascapes. Sadie is going along to see the ocean for the first time!

Anne is looking forward to a visit from her son and having more time to practice her mandolin.

Levi is building a new snowmobile ramp and deck for the back of his truck, preparing for the big snowstorms to hit.

Ciara is headed to Wisconsin to visit family and friends, see Christmas plays and get in the holiday spirit!

Rob is off to the Pacific Northwest to visit family and spend as much time with a fly rod in his hand as possible.

Marley and Linda are spending the holidays in Denver, with their daughter and son and their respective families. It's their son's birthday, and their daughter's first baby is due the first week of December, so it will be a big month for them!

Trixie, Blackjack, Jonah and Gemini are all enjoying lazy days of sunshine and hay. Henny Penny is laying low these next few days, however: wouldn't want to risk a case of mistaken identity!
